A Very Productive Weekend

What a good sensation when you get “in the zone” not just a few hours but a whole weekend. This sensation is especially good if you have been in low productivity mode for several days or even weeks. This time the trigger to enter in “flow mode” has been installing the final version of SQL Server 2005 in my dev machine. I tested dbdesc with SQL Server 2005 and of course, it didn’t work properly because dbdesc doesn’t use (only) “the official way” of querying a database schema, which is using the INFORMATION_SCHEMA view.

Anyway, I checkout a working copy from the dbdesc repository and I started playing a bit. On Saturday morning I had a new beta version of dbdesc with SQL Server 2005 support. Some features were disabled because they needed more work but the bulk of them were working nicely. I opened new bugs in my bug tracking database and I spent the rest of the weekend fixing them.

Although I need to do more testing and I still have to fix some little bugs, I can announce that dbdesc 1.2 will support SQL Server 2005 and probably SQL Server 2005 Express.
